Why Wedding Photography?

Preserving memories since 2010

In 2010, I photographed my very first wedding, completely terrified, with one camera (no backup), two cheap lenses, and one flash that I had no idea how to use. Honestly, I had no business being there. haha

The bride found a blog that I had published from my travels and the disaster recovery work I had done following the big earthquake in Haiti in January 2010. During that year, I served my church and the people of Haiti by escorting teams of volunteers to love, support, and pray for and with the more than 10,000 new orphans who were immediately found on the streets following the disaster. Along with all of the supplies, candy, toys, and shoes, I also brought my camera with me. I documented what I saw and published the photos online.

Sixteen years later, and after nearly 600 weddings (and counting), I still choose wedding photography because, quite honestly, I truly LOVE IT. I can't imagine my life without it.

Outside of the normal satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment that we all get from working hard and doing a great job, I actually love the stress of the job—the crunch of a compressed timeline, the challenge of managing the gear, the heat, the fatigue, the personalities, and everything that comes with being put on the spot for a one-time, never-happening-again event.

I love all of those aspects of my work, but what I think I love most are the people, and the stories I've witnessed and told.

The cultures I've observed. The traditions I've learned about. The places I've visited. The food I've enjoyed. The entertainment I've witnessed from the front row. The behind-the-scenes, fly-on-the-wall conversations I've heard. The friends I've made. The families who have brought me back again and again because yet another brother, sister, or cousin is getting married. The families I have become a part of. All of it. 

The amount of love and joy that I've witnessed, captured, and created over the years is impossible to measure, and valued more than I know how to express.

I put 100% of my heart into my work. It's far more than a job to me. It's not even really about the art of photography.

Wedding photography, for me, has been an expression of love. It's a way for me to honor the people that God has put into my life by using His gift to bless them.
